WordPress core will be updated to 6.4 starting January 2nd, 2024. Customers on dedicated clusters will be contacted to schedule this upgrade.

This version of WordPress introduces the new theme Twenty Twenty-Four, an accessibility-ready theme, with 11 built-in templates. All new themes are uploaded as network disabled and need to be enabled in Themes in network admin for users to be able to activate.

Unique identifiers for files will also be introduced, meaning every file uploaded via the media library will receive a unique file name, with random strings appended to the original file name.

For example, a file originally named ‘test.jpg’ will be automatically renamed to ‘test-4b3403665fea6.jpg’ or similar. This change will ensure a smoother and more efficient file management process.

These updates are already live on all test and sandbox networks for customers with development environments, except for clients on dedicated clusters.

All clients on dedicated clusters will be contacted to schedule the upgrade on their development networks. Clients with plugins and themes outside of our CampusPress common bundled plugins and themes should test them on their test and sandbox networks.

This release has been fully tested on our CampusPress common bundled plugins and themes.
