CampusPress and NEISD
The CampusPress hosted WordPress network for NEISD provides a blog or website to all teachers, students, and staff in the San Antonio, TX area school district.
A customer since 2010, over 17,500 users are on NEISD’s WordPress networks, including student blogs, journalism newspapers, and teacher sites.
To keep it easy for teachers and students, CampusPress integrates with the district’s LDAP directory. This allows all users to simply login with the same username and password they use for other district services, and can even automatically create blogs or websites for them as well.
NEISD has made blogging part of the professional development offered to teachers by running face-to-face trainings alongside CampusPress hosted virtual “Teacher Challenges”. The challenges, videos, and user guides available provide a starting point for teachers on how to use the technology in their classrooms.
“Anytime we have questions or concerns, the response is immediate.” – Laura Moore Instructional Technology Specialist, NEISD
HOW CAMPUSPRESS IS USED IN NEISD
School News Sites
Taking advantage of the ability to add additional WordPress themes to CampusPress networks, we host each middle and high school’s news site, run by students at the school.
One such site, newspaper.neisd.net/johnson, has been honored with awards from the the National Scholastic Press Association.
The students of NEISD use blogs in different courses and grade levels throughout the district. Teachers are able to set levels of privacy, moderation, and monitoring depending on the needs of the class.
Students enjoy choosing from one of over 200 fun, mobile friendly, and modern themes that they can then personalize to encourage ownership and pride in their blog.
With 1-to-1 iPad programs in the district, the seamless integration with mobile apps gives students an easy way to upload videos, images, and other media right to their blogs.
